Fixed 3.3 V rail for 5V-to-3.3V drops and 12V bus regulation
The LM2937IMP-3.3 is a single-output, fixed 3.3 V positive LDO regulator from Texas Instruments, delivering up to 400 mA continuous output. It accepts a 26 V max input, making it a direct drop for 5 V logic rails and a clean post-regulation stage on 12 V or 24 V industrial buses. The fixed output eliminates external resistor dividers — the BOM gets the 3.3 V rail with just input/output caps.
400 mA ceiling and dropout margin
Output current is rated 400 mA continuous — enough for a small MCU, a few op-amps, or a sensor cluster, but not a power-hungry radio or FPGA bank. The maximum dropout voltage is 1 V at 50 mA load, so a 5 V input to 3.3 V output leaves 0.7 V headroom at full current; a 3.6 V input would be marginal. Quiescent current is 2 mA typical, reasonable for always-on rails but not ultra-low-power standby.

SOT-223-4 footprint and thermal path
Housed in a SOT-223-4 surface-mount package (TO-261AA equivalent), the part's thermal pad on the tab conducts heat to the PCB copper plane. Protection features — over-temperature, reverse polarity, and short-circuit — reduce the need for external clamp diodes in field wiring applications.
