Fixed 12 V rail at 500 mA — the load budget
This is a single-output positive LDO that delivers a fixed 12 V output at up to 500 mA continuous. The 500 mA ceiling sets the load budget for the downstream circuitry — a 12 V relay bank, an analog sensor supply, or a bias rail for an op-amp chain all fit within that current envelope. The quiescent current sits at 2 mA typical, which is modest for a 500 mA-class linear regulator and keeps the no-load power dissipation low.
Industrial temperature range and protection suite
The built-in protection features include over-temperature shutdown, reverse polarity protection, and short-circuit current limiting. That protection suite reduces the need for external clamp diodes or crowbar circuits on the output rail.
Dropout voltage and input headroom
The maximum dropout voltage is specified at 1 V with a 50 mA load. The maximum input voltage is 26 V.
TO-220-3 package — through-hole thermal management
The TO-220-3 through-hole package allows the regulator to be bolted to a heatsink or chassis for thermal management. The metal tab is the output pin (Vout), so the heatsink must be electrically isolated or connected to the output rail. The three-lead layout is standard for fixed-output LDOs in this current class, making it straightforward to retrofit into an existing PCB layout that uses a TO-220 regulator.
