Dropout and quiescent numbers that matter
Maximum dropout is 1 V at 50 mA load — at lighter loads the dropout is lower, so the regulator holds regulation down to about 6 V input at nominal current. Quiescent current is 2 mA typical, rising to 20 mA max under all load and temperature conditions. That Iq floor matters for always-on 5 V rails in battery-backed or low-standby designs where every milliamp on the input side counts.
Protection set that reduces external BOM
Over-temperature shutdown, reverse polarity protection, and short-circuit current limiting are integrated. In a 24 V truck or marine panel where reverse-battery events happen, the reverse polarity clamp saves a series diode — and the thermal shutdown handles a sustained overload without the regulator failing open or short. Short-circuit protection limits the output current during a fault rather than latching off, so the rail recovers automatically when the fault clears.
