Dropout voltage and quiescent current — the headroom trade-off
Dropout is specified at 1V maximum at 50 mA output. At full 500 mA load the dropout rises; plan for at least 1.5V input-to-output differential to stay in regulation across temperature. Quiescent current is 2 mA typical — not a micropower LDO, but acceptable for always-on rails where the load current dominates the power budget.
Protection set — over-temp, reverse polarity, short circuit
On-chip protection includes over-temperature shutdown, reverse polarity blocking, and short-circuit current limiting. These reduce the need for external clamp diodes or foldback circuits in ruggedised designs.
