12 V fixed rail for industrial and automotive loads

Dropout and quiescent — the real-world numbers
Maximum dropout is 1 V at 50 mA load. That means with a 13 V input you still get regulation at light load; at full 500 mA the dropout will be higher, so budget at least 14.5 V input to stay out of dropout. Input voltage max is 26 V — plenty of headroom for a nominal 24 V industrial supply or a 12 V battery charging at 14.4 V.
Built-in protections cut external BOM
Over-temperature, reverse polarity, and short-circuit protection are all on-chip. In a motor-drive or solenoid-heavy environment where the 12 V rail sees transients and accidental reverse-battery events, these save a Schottky diode and a PTC. The short-circuit protection folds back current, so the regulator survives a dead short without letting the magic smoke out.
