Charge-pump LED driver with I²C dimming
The Texas Instruments LM27964SQ-A/NOPB is a switched-capacitor (charge pump) DC-DC regulator LED driver designed for backlight applications. It drives up to seven outputs, each capable of 30 mA typical, with two channels rated for 80 mA to support higher-current LEDs like camera flash or indicator lamps. Dimming is controlled via an I²C interface, allowing independent brightness adjustment per channel without additional PWM pins. The 700 kHz switching frequency keeps external capacitors small — typically 1 µF ceramic — and shifts ripple above the audible band.
Supply and output range
The regulated output voltage is programmable via I²C from 2 V to 4 V, matching the forward voltage of white or blue LEDs in series-parallel arrays. Internal switches eliminate the need for an external inductor — the charge pump uses only flying and reservoir capacitors.
