The LM2577T-ADJ/NOPB is a SIMPLE SWITCHER® adjustable boost/flyback/forward converter from Texas Instruments, built around a 3A internal switch and a 52 kHz oscillator. That 52 kHz switching frequency is low by today's standards — it keeps switching losses low and simplifies layout, but the inductor will be physically larger than what a 200 kHz+ part needs. The trade-off is a straightforward, noise-tolerant design that has been in production for decades.
40V input, 60V switch — voltage headroom for flyback rails
Input range runs from 3.5V up to 40V, and the internal switch is rated to 60V. That 60V ceiling on the switch means you can generate regulated outputs up to about 55V in a boost topology, or use a flyback transformer to step up further. The 1.23V reference sets the adjustable output floor — the feedback divider scales it up to whatever rail the load needs.
The TO-220-5 through-hole package is straightforward to store and handle — no moisture sensitivity level concerns, no dry-bake requirements before assembly.
The wide temperature range also covers engine-bay and factory-floor environments where ambient heat can push junction temperatures well above 85°C.
