60 V input, 3 A output — the workhorse buck for harsh environments
The Texas Instruments LM2576HVT-ADJ/NOPB is a SIMPLE SWITCHER® step-down buck regulator that takes a 4 V to 60 V input and delivers an adjustable output from 1.23 V up to 57 V at 3 A. It switches at 52 kHz, which keeps the EMI simple but means the inductor and output capacitor are physically larger than what a 500 kHz part would need.
52 kHz switching — big magnetics, simple layout
At 52 kHz the switching frequency is low enough that the regulator does not generate problematic high-frequency harmonics, so the PCB layout is forgiving and the output ripple is easy to filter with a standard electrolytic. The trade-off is that the inductor value needs to be in the 100 µH to 330 µH range, which takes up board area. For a field-service swap, the through-hole TO-220-5 package means you can pull the old part and solder in a replacement with a standard iron — no hot-air station, no reflow profile.
The SIMPLE SWITCHER family has been around for decades, so the ecosystem of reference designs, application notes, and third-party inductor vendors is mature.
