Through-hole buck regulator for 5V rails up to 3A

The Texas Instruments LM2576HVT-5.0/LF02 is a SIMPLE SWITCHER® series step-down (buck) regulator delivering a fixed 5V output at up to 3A from input voltages spanning 4V to 60V. It switches at 52kHz, which keeps the inductor physically larger than a modern high-frequency part but avoids the switching noise that can couple into sensitive analog front-ends or RF stages.

60V input ceiling and 125°C junction — where this part lives

The 60V maximum input voltage lets this regulator sit directly on a 48V telecom bus or a 24V industrial rail without a pre-regulator. No synchronous rectifier is used internally — the freewheeling diode is external, which adds a component to the BOM but lets the designer choose a Schottky with the right Vf and thermal footprint for the load current.

The TO-220-5 formed-leads package (through-hole) is a standard, widely stocked form factor. For a rework or low-volume build, that is convenient; for automated pick-and-place, the through-hole body requires a wave-solder or hand-solder step anyway.

Frequently asked questions

Is LM2576HVT-5.0/LF02 the same as LM2576HVT-5.0?

The /LF02 suffix typically indicates lead-free (RoHS-compliant) plating on the leads. The LM2576HVT-5.0/LF02 is the RoHS variant.

Is LM2576HVT-5.0/LF02 obsolete?

No — the product status is listed as active.
