The LM2576HVT-5.0 accepts an input from 4V to 60V, making it suitable for unregulated supplies like 12V, 24V, or 48V industrial rails. The wide range absorbs transients without a pre-regulator, but the dropout at low input is not a concern here — it is a buck, so the output is always lower than the input.

3A output — thermal budget in TO-220-5

Rated for 3A continuous output. In a TO-220-5 package, the thermal resistance is moderate — expect to heatsink it above 1A at elevated ambient.

52 kHz switching — inductor size trade-off

The 52 kHz switching frequency is low by modern standards, which means the inductor and output capacitor will be physically larger than a 500 kHz design. The upside: switching losses are low, EMI is easier to filter, and the SIMPLE SWITCHER® topology needs only four external components — inductor, diode, input cap, output cap.

Fixed 5V output — no feedback divider

This is the fixed 5V output version. No external resistor divider for the feedback pin — the internal reference sets the output. That saves two resistors and one node, but locks the output at 5V. If you need an adjustable output, look at the LM2576HVT-ADJ variant.
