Flyback regulator with 42V input ceiling
The Texas Instruments LM25184NGUR is a flyback topology regulator that steps up or steps down a 4.5V to 42V input to a fixed 12V output, delivering up to 4.1A. This makes it a single-inductor isolated or non-isolated supply for industrial and automotive auxiliary rails where the input bus varies widely — a 12V truck battery at rest (~12.5V) versus a 24V industrial rail, or a 48V telecom bus stepped down through the same part.
Switching frequency and thermal envelope
The switching frequency spans 12kHz to 350kHz, set by an external resistor. A lower frequency reduces switching losses and eases EMI filtering but demands a larger transformer; 350kHz shrinks the magnetics at the cost of higher core loss. The 8-WSON package with exposed pad (4x4 mm) and wettable flank terminals supports automated optical inspection of the solder joints — a requirement for automotive-grade assembly lines.
