TO-99-8 metal can — hermetic, through-hole, retrofit-ready
Housed in a TO-99-8 metal can, the LF298H is a through-hole device suited for environments where hermetic sealing matters — avionics, downhole instrumentation, or legacy board repairs where a drop-in replacement is preferred over a surface-mount adapter. The metal can provides a rugged, shielded enclosure that resists moisture and mechanical stress better than plastic DIP or SOIC alternatives.
What a sample-and-hold IC does on your board
The LF298H is a monolithic sample-and-hold circuit. It captures an analog voltage on command and holds it steady on an external capacitor while an ADC or downstream circuit digitises or processes it. This function is common in data-acquisition front ends, multiplexed analog systems, and precision measurement chains where timing skew between channels must be eliminated.
