It provides galvanic isolation up to 2500 Vrms between input and output sides, with one channel on side 1 and one on side 2.
With a maximum data rate of 1 Mbps, this isolator handles SPI, UART, and most industrial fieldbus signaling up to that speed. The propagation delay is 475 ns max in both directions, and pulse-width distortion is held to 14 ns max. That delay budget matters for timing-closed loops: at 1 Mbps the bit period is 1 µs, so the 475 ns delay eats nearly half the period one-way. For full-duplex links or daisy-chained nodes, factor that into the round-trip timing.
Common-mode transient immunity for noisy environments
The ISO7221ADR specifies a minimum common-mode transient immunity (CMTI) of 25 kV/µs. That rating is the key spec for applications like motor drives or half-bridge gate drivers where fast-switching power devices couple high dv/dt across the isolation barrier. If the CMTI is too low, the output can glitch or latch. At 25 kV/µs this part handles most industrial inverter edges without false triggering.
