It is designed for bidirectional current measurement across a shunt resistor in motor-drive, solenoid, and DC-DC converter feedback paths where the common-mode voltage can swing well outside the supply rails.

The 400 kHz -3dB bandwidth supports switching-frequency current loops up to the low hundreds of kHz — adequate for most automotive solenoid and brushed-DC motor PWM rates. The 5 µV typical input offset voltage lets the designer use a smaller shunt resistor (lower power dissipation) while still resolving milliampere-level current changes.
