Dual current-sense amplifier for shunt monitoring
The Texas Instruments INA2180A1IDGKR is a dual-channel current-sense amplifier in a compact 8-VSSOP package. It measures the voltage drop across a shunt resistor and outputs a voltage proportional to the load current, with a rail-to-rail output stage that swings close to the supply rails.
Bandwidth and slew rate set the usable frequency range
With a -3 dB bandwidth of 350 kHz and a slew rate of 2 V/µs, this amplifier can track fast current transients in switching power supplies or motor drive phases. The bandwidth limits the highest ripple frequency you can resolve on the shunt — above 350 kHz the gain rolls off, so the output under-reports the true peak current.
Industrial temperature range and low supply current
Operating from -40°C to 125°C ambient, the INA2180A1IDGKR suits under-hood automotive, industrial motor drives, and outdoor telecom gear. It draws 355 µA per channel typical from a 2.7 V to 5.5 V supply, making it practical for always-on current monitoring where the quiescent current budget is tight.
