What this current-sense amp is for
The INA180A3IDBVT is a single-channel current-sense amplifier from Texas Instruments, part of the INA180 family. It monitors current by amplifying the voltage drop across a shunt resistor, outputting a voltage proportional to the load current. With a -3 dB bandwidth of 350 kHz and a 2 V/µs slew rate, it tracks fast current transients in DC-DC converters, motor phases, and power-rail monitoring circuits where the signal content stays below a few hundred kilohertz.
Supply range, temperature grade, and package fit
The 260 µA supply current is low enough for always-on monitoring in battery-powered gear — the amp's own draw won't dominate the sleep budget. The SOT-23-5 package is a standard five-pin footprint that hand-solders easily and fits into tight layouts on two-layer boards. Input offset voltage is 100 µV — for a 10 mΩ shunt carrying 1 A, that offset represents a 10 mV error on a 10 mV signal, so factor it into the calibration budget for low-drop measurements. Input bias current is 80 µA, which flows through the shunt and adds a small voltage drop; it's negligible with shunt values under 1 Ω but matters with larger sense resistors.
RoHS3 compliant, so it meets the current EU and global restriction requirements without an exemption.
