Current sense amplifier for shunt-based monitoring
The Texas Instruments INA180A1IDBVT is a single-channel current sense amplifier in a SOT-23-5 package, designed to measure voltage drops across a shunt resistor on supply rails up to 5.5 V and translate that to a ground-referenced output. The device operates from a single 2.7 V to 5.5 V supply and draws 260 µA quiescent current, suiting it for always-on sensing in battery-powered equipment.
The 350 kHz bandwidth sets the usable frequency for the current signal; above that, the output amplitude rolls off. For a typical 10 mΩ shunt, the 100 µV input offset voltage corresponds to a minimum detectable current of 10 mA. If your application requires sub-milliamp resolution at low shunt voltages, consider a zero-drift architecture such as the INA254A1IPWAR, which offers a 6 µV offset. The 2 V/µs slew rate supports fast transient edges, but the bandwidth limits the fidelity of pulses shorter than about 1 µs.
