Product details

1.8A per bridge — drives small brushed DC and bipolar stepper motors

The DRV8839DSSR: Each half-bridge delivers up to 1.8 A continuous, enough to spin a small brushed DC motor or drive one phase of a bipolar stepper. The integrated Power MOSFETs eliminate the need for external FETs and their gate-drive circuitry, shrinking the board footprint to the 12-WSON package alone.

The motor load voltage can be anywhere from 0 V to 11 V, independent of the logic supply — handy when the motor runs on a higher battery voltage than the controller. Battery-powered applications are the stated target. The wide supply tolerance handles a single-cell Li-ion discharging from 4.2 V down to its cutoff without a boost converter.

Parallel interface — no protocol overhead

The DRV8839DSSR uses a Parallel control interface. Each bridge is driven by a pair of logic inputs (IN1/IN2 for one, IN3/IN4 for the other), so any GPIO-rich MCU can run it without SPI or I2C configuration. The firmware just toggles pins to set direction, brake, and coast states.

12-WSON (2x3 mm) — layout and thermal notes

The junction temperature range is -40°C to 150°C, so the copper area and via count must keep TJ below 150°C at the 1.8 A load current.

ROHS3 compliant — no exemptions to track

The DRV8839DSSR carries ROHS3 Compliant status, meaning it meets the EU RoHS directive without any of the exempted substance categories. No date-code restrictions or special handling for lead-free reflow.

Frequently asked questions

What is the DRV8839DSSR output current rating?

The DRV8839DSSR is rated for 1.8 A continuous output per half-bridge. This drives small brushed DC motors or one phase of a bipolar stepper motor.

What package does the DRV8839DSSR come in?

The DRV8839DSSR is supplied in a 12-WFDFN Exposed Pad package, also designated as 12-WSON (2 mm × 3 mm). It is available in Tape & Reel (TR) or Cut Tape (CT) options.

What compliance documentation does Texas Instruments provide for the DRV8839DSSR?

The DRV8839DSSR is ROHS3 Compliant. Texas Instruments provides the standard RoHS certificate of compliance and material declaration upon request.
