What this driver is — and what it isn't
The Texas Instruments DRV8837CDSGT is a fully integrated half-bridge driver for brushed DC motors, solenoids, and general-purpose inductive loads. It packs the control logic and NMOS power stage into a single 2x2 mm 8-WSON package, with a PWM interface that accepts logic-level inputs directly from an MCU or timer. This is not a stepper driver — it drives one brushed DC motor in one direction (or two solenoids alternately) using two half-bridge outputs.
Ratings that decide the fit
The 1A continuous output handles small brushed motors. The load voltage range is 0V to 11V.
Package and mounting
The 8-WSON (2x2) package with exposed thermal pad requires a PCB land pattern with thermal vias to the ground plane. At 1A continuous, the pad is the primary heat path.
What the scorch mark tells you — field service note
On a dead board, if the DRV8837CDSGT is the scorch mark, a shorted motor winding or a stalled rotor that pulled the output current above the 1A continuous rating is a typical failure.
