Fully integrated stepper driver with 1/32 microstepping
The Texas Instruments DRV8834PWPR is a fully integrated motor driver combining control logic and power MOSFETs in a single 24-HTSSOP package. It drives one bipolar stepper motor or two brushed DC motors using the four half-bridge outputs, each rated for 1.5A continuous. The step resolution goes from full-step down to 1/32 microstepping, which reduces low-speed torque ripple and audible noise in applications like 3D printers, CNC stages, and laboratory automation.
Supply voltage and load range — 2.5 V to 10.8 V
Both the motor supply and the logic supply share the same 2.5 V to 10.8 V range, which simplifies power rail design. The lower end covers 2-cell Li-ion and 3-cell alkaline battery packs; the upper end matches common 5 V and 9 V regulated rails.
Thermal and package — the exposed pad is not optional
The 24-TSSOP with exposed pad (HTSSOP) is the only package variant for this driver. At 1.5 A output, the junction can rise quickly without a proper thermal land and via array under the pad. The datasheet layout example uses a grid of thermal vias to the ground plane; skipping them or using a small copper island will push the junction above the 150°C absolute maximum under sustained load.
