What this dual H-bridge driver does on the BOM
The Texas Instruments DRV8833PWR is a fully integrated dual H-bridge motor driver built with NMOS output stages, intended for brushed DC motors or one bipolar stepper motor. Each H-bridge is rated for 1.5 A continuous output current, and the supply and motor voltage range spans 2.7 V to 10.8 V.
The 1.5 A continuous rating is per H-bridge, not summed across both. If you are driving two brushed DC motors simultaneously, each bridge can deliver 1.5 A to its own load. For a single bipolar stepper, the two bridges combine to handle the two winding phases, and the total motor current is limited by the winding resistance and the supply voltage. At 1.5 A per bridge, the 16-TSSOP package's thermal impedance becomes the real limiter. The 150°C TJ ceiling gives headroom, but in a 85°C ambient with both bridges loaded, the copper pour on the PCB is what keeps the die temperature in check.
Supply range and application fit
Typical applications include battery-operated toys, portable pumps, solenoid drivers, and general-purpose DC motor control where board space is tight. The NMOS output stage gives low on-resistance, so the driver stays cool at moderate currents.
The 16-TSSOP package has a 0.65 mm pin pitch and a 4.40 mm body width. The package is MSL-1 typical for TI motor drivers, so no bake-out needed before reflow.
