Motor driver selection for unipolar stepper and brushed DC loads
The DRV8805PWPR is a fully integrated unipolar stepper motor driver from Texas Instruments that also handles brushed DC motors. It integrates the control logic and power MOSFETs in a single 16-PowerTSSOP package, so the board layout keeps the high-current paths short and the gate-drive loop inductance low.
Output current and voltage range
Rated for 1 A continuous output per channel, the DRV8805PWPR drives small-to-medium unipolar stepper motors or two brushed DC motors in a low-side configuration. The four low-side outputs are controlled via a simple logic interface, with step resolution selectable as full-step or half-step. Half-stepping reduces low-speed torque ripple and resonance, which matters when the motor runs near its natural frequency.
Supplied in a 16-PowerTSSOP (also designated 16-HTSSOP) with an exposed thermal pad.
