What the DRV8801PWPR is and where it fits
The DRV8801PWPR is a fully integrated DMOS motor driver in a 16-PowerTSSOP package. It drives one brushed DC motor or one bipolar stepper motor using two half-bridges, each rated for 2.8 A continuous output. The supply and load voltage share the same 8 V to 38 V rail.
2.8 A output and 150 °C junction — what they mean for the BOM
The parallel interface keeps the control simple — no SPI or PWM setup registers to initialize. A few GPIO lines from an MCU drive the bridge directly. That saves firmware development time but means the MCU must generate the PWM frequency and duty cycle externally. If you need a serial interface to reduce pin count, look at the DRV8811 family instead.
Active lifecycle and ROHS3 compliance
There is no last-time-buy notice or obsolescence risk for current designs. This part is suitable for both prototyping and volume production without a near-term requalification event.
