Each of the two half-bridges delivers 2.5A continuous, which comfortably drives a 2A bipolar stepper motor with margin for acceleration peaks. For dual brushed DC motors, each channel handles a 2.5A load independently. The DRV8811PWPR, a common alternative, tops out at 1.9A per bridge — so if your BOM calls for 2A or more per winding, the DRV8424EPWPR is the part that fits without derating.
