Gate-driver controller, not a direct-drive FET
The DRV8320RHRHAT is a three-phase BLDC gate-driver controller from Texas Instruments — it handles commutation logic and gate drive, but the 5 mA output current means the power switching is done by external MOSFETs, not the chip itself. The hardware interface (no SPI) keeps the control loop deterministic: the direction and commutation are set by pin states, so the firmware overhead is minimal and the response is cycle-accurate.
6-60 V supply — covers 12, 24, and 48 V bus rails
The 6 V to 60 V supply range spans the common BLDC bus voltages — 12 V automotive, 24 V industrial, and 48 V servo/light-EV rails — without an external pre-regulator. Three half-bridge outputs drive the external MOSFET gates in a standard six-step or sinusoidal commutation pattern. The controller handles shoot-through protection and dead-time insertion internally. Operating temperature from -40 °C to 125 °C covers both the under-hood automotive band and the industrial enclosure ambient — no derating needed for a 105 °C motor-drive compartment.
40-VFQFN exposed-pad — thermal and layout notes
Surface-mount assembly with the exposed pad soldered to the board ground improves RθJA significantly compared to a non-thermal-pad QFN; the thermal performance is layout-dependent, not just package-limited.
