Single-axis analog Hall sensor for automotive and industrial position sensing
The DRV5053VAQLPGMQ1 is a single-axis Hall-effect sensor from Texas Instruments' automotive-qualified DRV5053 family. It outputs an analog voltage proportional to the magnetic flux density perpendicular to the package face, with a ±9 mT sensing range that covers brushless-DC rotor position, linear travel, and current-sense applications using a ferromagnetic core. The 20 kHz bandwidth lets the output track fast field changes such as gear-tooth edges or PWM current ripple, settling within approximately 50 µs of a step change.
Supply voltage and output drive — power-tree simplification
The 2.7 V to 38 V supply range allows the sensor to run directly from a 12 V or 24 V automotive battery rail without a local regulator, saving a BOM line and board space. The analog output can source or sink up to 2.3 mA, enough to drive the ADC input of a typical MCU or an external filter network without a buffer. Maximum supply current is 3.6 mA, making it suitable for always-on modules where quiescent draw matters.
Package and mounting — through-hole TO-92-3
The through-hole TO-92-3 package (short-body variant) is hand-solderable and fits standard 0.1-inch pitch prototyping boards. The three leads are supply, ground, and analog output — no external components required beyond a decoupling capacitor. Available in cut tape or tape-and-box for low-to-medium volume assembly; the through-hole format avoids the reflow profile constraints of SMD packages.
