Single-axis linear Hall sensor for automotive current and position sensing
The DRV5053VAELPGMQ1 is a single-axis Hall-effect sensor from Texas Instruments, part of the automotive-qualified DRV5053 family. It outputs an analog voltage proportional to the magnetic flux density perpendicular to the package face, with a linear sensing range of ±9 mT. The 20 kHz bandwidth means the sensor tracks magnetic field changes up to 20,000 times per second — fast enough for motor commutation feedback or high-speed current sensing in a 48 V automotive bus. AEC-Q100 Grade 0 qualification (-40°C to 150°C ambient) certifies the sensor for under-hood and transmission-mounted applications where the ambient temperature exceeds the 125°C ceiling of Grade 1 parts.
Supply range and output drive
The 3.6 mA max supply current is the total draw from the battery. The output voltage is ratiometric to the supply, so a 5 V reference ADC reads the full-scale field at 4.5 V output.
The TO-92-3 short-body through-hole package (3-lead, 0.100-inch pitch) is the standard Hall-effect sensor footprint — it mates with 0.025-inch square pins and fits existing PCB layouts for the DRV5053 family. The short body reduces the seated height compared to a standard TO-92. The through-hole mounting is preferred for prototypes and low-volume production where rework is common; the leads are tin-plated for solderability. The package is supplied in cut tape or tape-and-box for hand assembly or pick-and-place with a through-hole feeder.
