Sensing range and bandwidth for position and current loops
The DRV5053PAELPGQ1 is a single-axis linear Hall sensor with a ±35 mT sensing range — wide enough to resolve the field from a standard NdFeB magnet across a 2–4 mm air gap in a linear position or rotary angle application. The 20 kHz bandwidth tracks PWM ripple in a 10–20 kHz switching regulator or motor drive, so the output voltage follows the magnetic waveform without significant phase lag. The analog voltage output simplifies the signal chain: no SPI or I²C bus, no digital filter setup — the output pin connects directly to an ADC input on the ECU or controller. The 2.7 V to 38 V supply range means the same part works on a 5 V sensor rail, a 12 V battery line, or a 24 V truck power bus without a separate regulator.
Temperature grade and automotive qualification
The Temperature Compensated feature holds the sensitivity stable across the full temperature band, so the output voltage at a given field stays within a tighter window than an uncompensated sensor would deliver. The base product number DRV5053 covers multiple sensitivity options in the same TO-92-3 footprint, so a sensitivity change (e.g., to a ±21 mT or ±85 mT variant) does not require a PCB layout change.
The TO-92-3 (TO-226-3) through-hole package is a standard three-lead inline footprint — the same as many legacy Hall sensors and temperature sensors. The 2.3 mA maximum output current and 3.6 mA maximum supply current keep the self-heating low enough that the sensor's own temperature rise does not shift the magnetic measurement by more than a few percent.
