Active AEC-Q100 Hall sensor for 150°C under-hood use
The DRV5053CAEDBZTQ1 is an active-production single-axis linear Hall-effect sensor from Texas Instruments, qualified to AEC-Q100 for automotive applications. Its 150°C junction rating and 2.7 V to 38 V supply range make it a direct fit for engine-bay and transmission oil-temperature environments where the ambient can hit 125°C and the supply rail is unregulated. The analog voltage output (0 V to Vcc proportional to field) feeds directly into an MCU ADC without a digital interface — no SPI/I2C bus loading, no protocol latency. The 20 kHz bandwidth is fast enough to capture motor-commutation edges and vibration signatures in real time.
Package and rework — SOT-23-3 on a hot-air bench
The SOT-23-3 (TO-236-3) package is one of the easiest small-outline parts to hand-rework. Three pins on a 1.9 mm pitch — hot air at 300°C for 8–10 seconds lifts the part clean without lifting the pad. The pin-1 identifier is a chamfer on the top-left corner of the body; verify orientation under a loupe before reflow. No exposed thermal pad means no solder-paste voiding risk under the die. Standard FR4 with 1 oz copper is fine; the 2.3 mA max output current generates negligible self-heating.

AEC-Q100 qualification means the part has passed the full suite of automotive reliability tests — temperature cycling, ESD, latch-up, and extended high-temperature operating life. This supports PPAP submission for Tier-1 and OEM programs.
