Omnipolar sensing in a 3-pin SOT-23
The DRV5032ZEDBZT is an omnipolar Hall-effect switch from Texas Instruments that responds to either a north or south magnetic pole — no polarity alignment needed in the mechanical assembly. It switches the open-drain output low when the applied field exceeds ±63 mT (operate point) and releases at ±30 mT (release point), giving 33 mT of hysteresis to prevent chatter at the threshold. The SOT-23-3 footprint (TO-236 / SC-59 compatible) fits into tight PCB layouts where a discrete reed switch or a larger Hall package would not.
3.5 µA supply — always-on sensor budget
For a battery-powered device that must detect lid closure or magnetic proximity continuously, this sensor adds under 0.1 mAh per day to the system budget — negligible next to the MCU sleep current. The open-drain output sinks up to 5 mA, which is enough to drive a logic input or an LED indicator directly. Because the output is open-drain, multiple sensors can share a single pull-up resistor in a wired-OR configuration for interrupt summing.
