Automotive unipolar Hall switch for position and proximity sensing
The DRV5023BIQLPGQ1 is an automotive-grade unipolar Hall-effect switch from Texas Instruments, part of the DRV5023 family. It switches its open-drain output low when a south pole magnetic field exceeds the 24 mT trip threshold and releases (output goes high) when the field drops below 3 mT.
Temperature compensation keeps thresholds stable across the engine bay
The temperature-compensated design means the 24 mT trip point drifts less over the operating range than an uncompensated sensor, so the detection window stays repeatable in an engine compartment or transmission environment. The open-drain output sinks up to 30 mA (2.7 mA typical switching current) — enough to drive a PLC input, a microcontroller GPIO, or a small relay coil directly. South-pole-only activation simplifies the magnet orientation requirement: the sensor ignores north-pole fields, eliminating false triggers from nearby permanent magnets.
