2.5 V unipolar Hall switch with 24 mT trip — what the thresholds mean on the bench
The DRV5023BIQDBZR is a unipolar Hall-effect switch from Texas Instruments, base part number DRV5023, in a three-pin SOT-23 package. It switches its open-drain output low when a south-pole magnetic field exceeds 24 mT and releases (output goes high-impedance) when the field drops below 3 mT. That 24 mT operate point is a mid-range threshold — strong enough to ignore stray fields from nearby busbars or motors, but reachable with a small neodymium magnet a few millimetres from the package face. The 3 mT release gives 21 mT of hysteresis, so the output doesn't chatter when the target stops at the threshold edge.
Supply and output drive — what pulls the BOM together
Runs on a 2.5 V supply, drawing 2.7 mA typical. The SOT-23-3 footprint is standard; the centre pin is ground, pin 1 is supply, pin 3 is output. That matters for an engine-bay or industrial enclosure where the ambient swings — the switch won't drift open on a hot afternoon.
