AEC-Q100 unipolar switch for position sensing
The DRV5023BIELPGQ1 is a unipolar Hall-effect switch from Texas Instruments, qualified to AEC-Q100 for automotive applications. It responds to a south pole magnetic field, switching the open-drain output low when the flux density exceeds 24 mT and releasing at 3 mT. Operating from a 2.7 V supply with a 30 mA maximum output current, the device draws 2.7 mA typical switching current. The -40°C to 150°C ambient temperature range covers under-hood and transmission environments where standard commercial sensors would drift out of spec.
Temperature compensation and threshold stability
Without compensation, the Hall plate sensitivity shifts with temperature and the switch point drifts — this part holds the 24 mT trip within a tighter window than a basic uncompensated sensor. The 3 mT release hysteresis prevents output chatter when the magnetic field hovers near the threshold. For a rotating target like a gear tooth or cam lobe, the hysteresis gap ensures one clean edge per pole pass rather than multiple transitions.
