8-bit bus transceiver for 5V backplanes
The Cypress CY74FCT543TSOC is an 8-bit non-inverting transceiver from the 74FCT family, designed for bidirectional data flow on 5V buses. It packs one element with eight bits per element, and the 3-state outputs let multiple devices share a common data line without contention. The 32mA sink and 64mA source drive gives it enough muscle to drive a heavily loaded backplane or a long ribbon cable without external buffers — something the older 74LS parts can't match with their 15mA rating.
5V-only supply — plan the rail accordingly
The supply range is 4.75V to 5.25V, which means this is a strict 5V part. It won't run from a 3.3V rail, so if your board has migrated to lower voltages, you'll need a separate 5V regulator or a level-shifting transceiver.
24-SOIC wide-body — check your footprint
The package is a 24-SOIC with 0.295-inch (7.50mm) body width. That's the wide SOIC variant, not the narrow 3.9mm body. If your board layout was done for a narrow SOIC-24, this part won't fit without a footprint change. Surface-mount assembly is standard, and the tube shipping medium is fine for hand-assembly or low-volume production runs.
If you're qualifying a new design, there's no urgency to find an alternate for supply continuity.
