8-bit bus transceiver for 5V backplanes
The Cypress CY74FCT2543CTSOC is an 8-bit non-inverting transceiver with 3-state outputs from the 74FCT logic family. It operates from a 4.75V to 5.25V supply and is housed in a 24-SOIC wide-body package (0.295" body width). Output drive is specified at 15 mA source and 12 mA sink per channel, which gives enough headroom to drive a standard 5V backplane bus or a bank of LED indicators without external buffers.
Supply rail and logic compatibility
The 4.75V to 5.25V supply range means this part is a strict 5V-logic device. It is not rated for 3.3V operation — the minimum supply is 4.75V, so running it from a 3.3V rail would violate the guaranteed operating conditions. If the rest of the board is 3.3V, consider a 5V-tolerant transceiver like the SN74LVTH16245ADGVR (2.7V supply) or a level-shifting buffer. The non-inverting data path and 3-state outputs allow bidirectional bus connection with direction control (DIR) and output enable (OE) pins typical of the 74FCT2543 function. The single-element, 8-bit width matches a byte-wide data bus or control register bank.
Lifecycle and sourcing posture
For production BOMs this means no near-term obsolescence risk.
