Board-level logic integration: dual 9-bit register
The CY74FCT16823CTPVC is a dual 9-bit D-type flip-flop from the 74FCT family, clocked on the positive edge with a master reset function. Each of the two elements holds 9 bits, giving you 18 bits of storage in a single 56-SSOP package — useful for buffering wide data buses or holding status registers in a control path. Outputs are tri-state and non-inverted, so they can be ganged onto a shared bus without contention when the output enable is deasserted. The 32 mA source / 64 mA sink drive capability is enough to drive a moderate backplane or a bank of LED indicators directly, though the 12.5 ns propagation delay at 300 pF load sets the ceiling on the bus cycle time.
Supply, temperature, and quiescent budget
Runs on a 4.5 V to 5.5 V rail — a classic 5 V logic supply. The 500 µA quiescent current is the standby draw when the clock is static; dynamic current scales with the toggle rate and load capacitance, so budget the full Icc vs frequency curve from the datasheet if the register is clocked at high speed. Industrial temperature range from -40°C to +85°C covers most factory-floor and outdoor telecom enclosures. The 4.5 pF input capacitance is low enough that the upstream driver's rise time is not degraded by the fan-in load.

Housed in a 56-BSSOP (0.295-inch body width, 7.50 mm), also referred to as 56-SSOP in the supplier device package field. Surface-mount only. The 0.025-inch (0.635 mm) pitch demands a fine-pitch soldering profile — a hot-air rework station with a nozzle sized for the body width is the safe removal method if a rework is needed. Supplied in a tube, not tape-and-reel, so plan for manual placement or a tube-fed pick-and-place shuttle if this goes into volume production. The tube quantity is typically 20 or 25 per tube; confirm the exact count with the distributor at quote time.
