32 KB Flash, 20 MHz — what this 8-bit MCU brings to a legacy board
The National Semiconductor COP8SBR9LVA8 is an 8-bit MCU from the COP8™ 8S family, built around the COP8 core.
This part runs on a single 2.7 V supply — no separate analog rail needed. If your board lives in a climate-controlled cabinet or a residential thermostat, this grade is fine.
On-chip peripherals and serial interfaces
For serial communication, you get a Microwire/Plus (SPI) port and a UART/USART. No CAN, no I²C on this die, so if your design needs those, you will have to bit-bang or add an external bridge.
The COP8SBR9LVA8 includes an internal oscillator, so you can skip the external crystal or ceramic resonator for many applications. That frees up two I/O pins and reduces BOM count. If you need tighter timing for a UART baud rate, you can still feed an external clock into the oscillator input.
Lifecycle and sourcing — still active, no LTB on the horizon
For a legacy board that already uses this part, the supply channel remains open through standard distribution and independent sourcing alike.
