The CD74HCT251M comes in a 16-SOIC body measuring 0.154" wide by 3.90 mm — the standard narrow SOIC footprint that routes out on a two-layer board without micro-vias. The 1.27 mm pin pitch is forgiving for hand-solder rework; a field-service kit with a fine-tip iron and flux pen can swap this part in under three minutes. The 4 mA source/sink per output drives one standard LSTTL load or a CMOS gate input — no buffer needed for a single fan-out.
What the 8:1 mux does in a real circuit
This is a single 8-channel to 1-line multiplexer with three address selects (A, B, C) and an active-low strobe. The 1 x 8:1 topology means you route eight digital signals — sensor interrupts, switch banks, or data lines — into one shared input on a microcontroller, saving GPIO pins. The strobe lets you cascade two of these into a 16:1 mux without external gating. If your board lives in a 0-70°C commercial box, the margin is still there; the HCT family's CMOS inputs with TTL-compatible thresholds mean it works with both 5 V logic families.
