8:1 mux in a 16-pin SOIC — what this buys the BOM
The CD74HCT151M is a single 8-to-1 multiplexer from the 74HCT family, in a 16-SOIC package. It selects one of eight data inputs and routes it to a single output, controlled by three address lines and an active-low strobe. The 4.5V to 5.5V supply range matches standard 5V CMOS and TTL logic rails — no 3.3V compatibility here, so plan the supply accordingly. Output drive is rated 4mA high and 4mA low, typical for HCT, enough for a few LSTTL loads or a single CMOS gate input.
Temperature grade — military spec, not commercial
Rated -55°C to 125°C operating temperature, which puts this in the military-temperature bracket. That covers avionics, satellite payloads, downhole instrumentation, and other environments where the board sees extreme cold or sustained heat. The same 74HCT logic function is available in commercial (0°C to 70°C) and industrial (-40°C to 85°C) grades — the CD74HCT151M is the wide-temp variant, and the price reflects that screening.
Lifecycle and sourcing
For dual-sourcing, note that the 74HCT151 function is second-sourced by multiple vendors (e.g., NXP, ON Semiconductor) under similar order codes; cross-check the package and temperature grade before substituting.
