Quad 2-input XOR in a 14-pin DIP
The CD74HC86E is a Texas Instruments 74HC-series quad 2-input XOR (Exclusive OR) gate in a 14-pin DIP package (14-DIP, 0.300" body width). It performs the XOR logic function on each of its four independent gates, outputting a high signal when the two inputs differ.
Timing and drive for the BOM line
Maximum propagation delay is 20 ns at 6V with a 50 pF load — this sets the data-rate ceiling for the XOR function in the signal path. The output drive capability is 5.2 mA for both sourcing and sinking, adequate for driving standard CMOS inputs or a single TTL load. Quiescent current is just 2 µA maximum, making the gate suitable for battery-powered or always-on logic sections where the idle power budget is tight. Input logic levels are specified relative to the supply: low-level threshold is 0.5V to 1.8V, high-level is 1.5V to 4.2V over the 2V-6V range — the thresholds scale with VCC, so the gate works with mixed-voltage logic families as long as the input swing meets the VIL/VIH window at the operating supply.

The 14-DIP (0.300", 7.62mm) through-hole package with 0.100-inch pin spacing is a standard footprint for breadboarding, prototyping, and legacy PCB designs.
