What the 1 x 4:16 configuration means for your BOM
The CD74HC4514M is a 74HC-series decoder/demultiplexer from Texas Instruments that takes a 4-bit binary input and asserts one of 16 active-high outputs — the 1 x 4:16 circuit means a single decoder block handles the full 4-to-16 expansion without cascading. This is the part to reach for when you need to map four address lines to sixteen select lines, such as bank-switching memory or scanning a keypad matrix.
Housed in a 24-SOIC wide-body package (0.295" body width, 7.50 mm), the CD74HC4514M mounts on a standard surface-mount footprint. The 1.27 mm pin pitch is forgiving for hand-assembly or rework, and the package is compatible with common SOIC-24 land patterns — no exotic footprint required. Output drive is rated 5.2 mA for both high and low states. That is enough to drive CMOS logic inputs or a low-power LED directly, but if you are feeding a bus with higher fan-out, plan on a buffer stage.
