16 analog channels in one SOIC-24 package
The Texas Instruments CD74HC4067M96G4 is a single-pole, 16-throw (SP16T) analog multiplexer and demultiplexer that routes one of sixteen inputs to a common output. The 16:1 configuration is useful for expanding ADC inputs, scanning multiple sensor channels, or routing audio and control signals in industrial and instrumentation equipment.
On-resistance and channel matching — what 160 Ohm and 8.5 Ohm delta mean
The maximum on-resistance of 160 Ohm is typical for a 5V CMOS analog switch of this density. For a 10 kOhm load, the 160 Ohm Ron introduces roughly 1.6% gain error — acceptable for 8-bit systems but worth budgeting in 12-bit+ precision chains. The channel-to-channel matching of 8.5 Ohm ensures that when scanning across inputs the attenuation shift stays under 0.5% for matched loads. The 89 MHz -3 dB bandwidth is more than adequate for analog audio, low-speed video (composite), and digital signals up to several MHz. For high-speed digital multiplexing above 10 MHz, the 5pF/50pF off-channel capacitance will start to load the bus, so keep trace lengths short and consider a dedicated analog bus switch for >50 MHz applications.
Switching speed and leakage — timing budget for scanning applications
Maximum turn-on time is 51 ns and turn-off time is 49 ns, allowing channel switching at rates up to roughly 10 MHz. The 800 nA maximum off-state leakage current is low enough that it won't affect readings in most sensor applications, but in high-impedance circuits (above 100 kOhm source impedance) the leakage can introduce a DC offset that should be calibrated out.
