16-pin DIP that reworks clean
The CD74HC4049E comes in a 16-DIP (0.300", 7.62mm) through-hole package — the 0.1-inch pitch and wide body mean you can hand-solder or rework it without a microscope. Pin 1 is clearly marked by the notch and dot on the body, so orientation is unambiguous under a hot-air station or iron. The plastic DIP handles reflow profiles up to 260°C peak per J-STD-020, but through-hole parts like this are typically wave-soldered or hand-soldered — the leads soak heat fast and the body stays below its glass-transition temperature.
Six inverting buffers, push-pull rails
Each of the six elements is a single-bit inverting buffer with push-pull output — no open-drain or three-state, so the output drives high or low with 5.2 mA source and sink capability at 2V to 6V supply. The push-pull stage eliminates the need for external pull-up resistors on the output side, simplifying the board layout for level translation or signal inversion between logic families. At 2V the output drive drops, but the push-pull stage still delivers rail-to-rail swing into light loads — typical for clock buffering or control-signal inversion in mixed-voltage systems.
Active production, ROHS3 compliant
The 74HC family is a mature logic series, but TI continues to manufacture it, so the supply chain is stable through authorized distribution. The through-hole DIP package is widely inventoried across independent and authorized channels, so lead times are typically short for standard quantities.
