8-input NAND — the wide combinatorial gate for address decode and glitch filtering
The CD74HC30MT is a single 8-input NAND gate from Texas Instruments' 74HC family. With eight inputs collapsing to one output, it replaces two 4-input NANDs or a cascade of smaller gates in address decoding, data bus gating, and hazard-pulse filtering where a single wide AND-NAND function cleans up the logic tree.
Runs on 2V to 6V — a single Li-ion cell at 3.6V or a regulated 5V rail both work without a level translator. Quiescent current maxes at 2 µA across the supply range — negligible static draw for battery-backed or always-on logic planes. Output drive is 5.2 mA source and sink at rated conditions, enough to fan out to four standard HC loads or drive a single LED indicator through a current-limiting resistor.
Propagation delay and input thresholds
Maximum propagation delay is 22 ns at 6V with a 50 pF load — typical for the HC speed grade. The input low-level threshold spans 0.5V to 1.8V, and the high-level threshold spans 1.5V to 4.2V, which means the gate reliably interprets 3.3V logic as a high while still accepting 1.8V signals on the same input without external biasing.
The supplier device package is 14-SOIC, so the land pattern matches JEDEC MS-012.
