Switching speed and drive capability at the board level
The CD74HC27MT: Maximum propagation delay is 16 ns at 6 V with a 50 pF load. For a 5 V rail this means the gate settles well within a 50 MHz clock period, making it suitable for control logic and address decoding in mixed-speed buses. Output current is rated 5.2 mA source and sink, which drives standard CMOS inputs directly and can switch small loads like a single LED or a MOSFET gate through a series resistor. Quiescent current is 2 µA maximum, so the gate adds negligible static power draw in battery-powered or always-on subsystems.
