Quad XOR gate for timing-critical 5V logic
The Texas Instruments CD74ACT86M96 is a quad 2-input XOR (Exclusive OR) gate from the 74ACT series, packaged in a 14-SOIC footprint. Each of the four gates accepts two inputs and produces a high output when the inputs differ. The 24 mA symmetric output drive (both source and sink) provides enough current to drive multiple downstream CMOS or TTL loads without buffering, and the 4 µA maximum quiescent current keeps the static power draw negligible in battery-backed or always-on logic sections.
Supply, temperature, and logic thresholds
The input logic thresholds are specified as 0.8 V for a low and 2 V for a high, which provides noise margins compatible with both 5 V TTL and 5 V CMOS families when the supply is at 5 V. Rated for the full industrial-military temperature range of -55°C to 125°C, this gate can be deployed in engine-bay electronics, avionics, or downhole instrumentation where the ambient temperature exceeds the commercial 85°C ceiling.
