Six Schmitt-trigger inverters in a breadboard-friendly DIP
The CD74AC14E packs six independent inverter gates, each with a Schmitt-trigger input, into a 14-pin through-hole DIP (0.300-inch body, 7.62 mm pitch). Each gate has a single input and provides a clean inverted output — the Schmitt action eliminates false toggling from slow edges or noisy signals, making this part a natural fit for debouncing switches, squaring up oscillator waveforms, or conditioning sensor outputs.
Wide supply and military temperature range
Quiescent current maxes out at just 4 µA across the supply range, so it adds negligible draw to a battery-powered or sleep-mode system.
Output drive and speed at 5 V
Propagation delay is 10.5 ns max at 5 V with a 50 pF load, placing this in the medium-speed range of the 74AC family; it handles clock rates up to roughly 50 MHz in a clean layout. The Schmitt input thresholds are specified at 1.6 V low and 3.4 V high (at 5 V supply), giving roughly 1.8 V of hysteresis — this is the margin that rejects noise on long traces or slow-rise signals.
