What this AND gate does on your board
The CD4081BE is a quad 2-input AND gate from the classic 4000B CMOS logic family, in a 14-pin DIP package for through-hole assembly.
Supply voltage and logic-level compatibility
The 3V to 18V supply range is the 4000B family's main advantage over 5V-only logic. At 5V, the input low threshold is 1.5V to 4V and the high threshold is 3.5V to 11V, so the gate directly accepts 5V CMOS and TTL levels with margin. At 12V or 15V rails, the same gate can interface with higher-voltage sensors or analog circuits without a level shifter. The output can source or sink 3.4 mA per gate, enough to drive a standard LED or a CMOS input on the next stage.
Propagation delay and speed context
Maximum propagation delay is 90 ns at 15V with a 50 pF load. That is slower than a 74HC gate (19 ns at 6V), but the 4000B family trades speed for noise immunity and wide supply tolerance. For clock rates below 5 MHz or for control logic, glitch filtering, and enable gating, the delay is irrelevant. For high-speed data paths, pick a 74HC or 74AC part instead.
The 14-DIP (0.300", 7.62mm) through-hole package is breadboard-friendly and hand-solderable. The supplier device package is 14-PDIP. MSL rating is not listed, but DIP packages are typically MSL 1 (no bake required).
