Quad 2-input OR gate for wide-supply logic trees
The CD4071BM is a quad 2-input OR gate from TI's 4000B series, packaged in a 14-SOIC footprint. It operates across a 3V to 18V supply range, making it suitable for mixed-voltage boards where a single logic family must bridge 5V and 12V rails without a level translator. Four independent OR gates per package, each with two inputs, give you four logic functions in one 14-pin SOIC — a space-efficient choice for combinatorial logic on a 2-layer PCB where routing density matters.
Wide temperature range and quiescent current floor
Maximum quiescent current is 1 µA across the full supply range, so the gate's own draw is negligible in battery-powered or always-on sensor nodes. The 3.4 mA output drive (both high and low) is enough to fan out to four standard CMOS loads but not to drive a relay directly — plan a buffer stage for inductive loads. Propagation delay is 90 ns max at 15V with a 50 pF load. At lower supply voltages the delay increases — budget 150-200 ns per gate stage when running at 5V to avoid timing violations in a clocked path.
