Quad XOR gate for wide-supply logic
The Texas Instruments CD4070BM is a quad 2-input XOR (exclusive OR) gate from the 4000B series of CMOS logic. It operates over a 3V to 18V supply range, drawing a maximum quiescent current of just 1 µA, and is specified across the full -55°C to 125°C military temperature range. Packaged in a 14-SOIC surface-mount package, it provides four independent XOR gates, each with two inputs, making it suitable for parity checking, comparator circuits, and controlled inversion in industrial control, automotive, and aerospace systems where a wide supply tolerance and low static power are required.
Supply flexibility and speed trade-off
The 3V to 18V supply range allows the CD4070BM to interface directly with 5V, 12V, and 15V logic families without level shifters, a key advantage over lower-voltage XOR gates such as the SN74LVC86APWR (1.65V to 3.6V). The trade-off is propagation delay: at 15V and 50 pF load, the CD4070BM is rated at 100 ns maximum, versus 4.4 ns at 3.3V for the SN74LVC86APWR. For slow control signals, panel switches, or sensor debounce, the 100 ns delay is acceptable; for high-speed data buses, the 74LVC part is the better fit.
Temperature range and quiescent current
The -55°C to 125°C operating range and 1 µA maximum quiescent current suit battery-backed or always-on logic. Output current is 3.4 mA for both high and low states.
